The story so far... we are broadly interested in understanding the evolutionary mechanisms that account for the diversity observed in the natural world and study animals whose life histories and accessibility to experimental techniques make this possible.
the lAB group ESTABLISHED by AZIZ In THE SUMMER OF 2006 AND Since tHEN We HAVE focused almost exclusively on establishing the planarian SCHMIDtEA MEDIterranea as a model system for understanding tissue regeneration. WE ARE THE FIRST LAB IN THE UK TO DO THIS. IN THE SUMMER OF 2010 AZIZ WILL BECOME A lECTURER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM WHEN HIS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP ENDS AND THE LAB WILL CONTINUE TO RESEARCH PLANARIAN REGENeRATION.
more recently we have also renewed our efforts to use the amphipod crustacean parhyale hawaiensis as A system to understand early embryonic patterning.
THE LAB is closely associated with the University of Nottingham’s next GENeration sequencing RESEARCH facility “DEEP SEQ” which Aziz currently directs.
PLEASE TAKE A LOOK ALSO AT THE PEOPLE PAGES TO SEE WHAT WE ARE ALL DOING. IN CASE YOU CAN’t FIND WHO YOU ARE LOOKING FOR CHECK THE ALUMNI PAGE TO GET AN IDEA WHERE PREVIOUS GROUP MEMBERS HAVE ENDED UP!
